1. Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is due to make a statement on state TV, with speculation rife that he will announce his departure. (Mubarak has decided to remain in office until september and only transfer some power to vice president suleiman)
2. Hossam Badrawi, secretary general of Mr Mubarak's ruling NDP, tells the BBC that the president should step aside - the first senior figure to publicly call for him to quit. 3. Thousands of anti-government protesters continue to throng the streets of Cairo, and reacted with cheers of celebration to the possibility of Mr Mubarak's departure.
(The once joyful mass of people awaiting Mubarak's stepping down from his position have entered an extremly angered state)
4. The army announces its higher council will "remain in continuous session" without President Mubarak to "discuss what measures and arrangements could be taken to safeguard the homeland".
